Pandemic has rendered Olympic Games as one of a kind: Rahul Gandhi
“All the best to Indian athletes participating in Tokyo 2020,” Rahul Gandhi wished the sportsmen through a tweet
Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and Member of Parliament, on Friday, expressed his wishes to Indian athletes who are participating in Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
“All the best to Indian athletes participating in Tokyo 2020,” Rahul Gandhi wished the sportsmen through a tweet.
He, however, said that the pandemic of COVID-19 had rendered the latest edition of Olympic Games as ‘one of a kind’, given the precautionary measures such as observance of Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB).
“The pandemic has rendered these Olympic Games one of a kind. Please stay safe. You have all our best wishes,” Mr. Rahul said.
An international multi-sport event, the 2020 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and branded as Tokyo 2020, is scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan, with some preliminary events already taking place from July 21.
Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the event was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and will be held largely behind closed doors with no public spectators permitted under the state of emergency.
Pertinently, this is the first time in the history of the sporting event that the Olympic Games have been postponed and rescheduled, rather than cancelled.
