The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disability observed National Unity Day yesterday
National Unity Day or Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is celebrated in India every year on October 31, to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel‘s birth anniversary. On this day, ‘Run for Unity’ is held across the country. People from all walks of life take part in this event.
Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities observed the RashtriyaEktaDiwas / National Unity Day on the 31st October, 2023 in commemoration of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – the Iron Man of India.
With the vision to create awareness among the masses, the Department observed the National Unity Day on 31st October 2023, through the institutions associated with it by conducting various events across the country. The celebration witnessed activities like Run for Unity in Delhi.
Under the aegis of DEPwD Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities and the Indian Sign Language Research Centre jointly organised this run for unity fromRajghat to Lal Quilaon on 31st October 2023. Around 650 Persons with Disabilities, Faculty, Professionals, Students and staff members of PDUNIPPD, ISLRTC, and officials of DEPwDal participated in this Inclusive Run for Unity. Delhi Government Social Welfare Department, Akhil Bhartiya Viklang Vidhwa Virdha Sewa Samiti, and MAA SHAKTI Organization also participated in this Run for Unity from Rajghat to Lal Quila.
The program started with Pad Pooja of Honoured Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel- the Iron Man of India followed by a Pledge taking on National Unity. The program was attended by Shri Rajiv Sharma, Joint Secretary, Disability Division, and Shri Mritunjaya Jha, Director, DEPwD, MSJ&E, Government of India. Director Gandhi Darshan Samiti and officials were also present.
On this occasion, Joint Secretary, Shri Rajeev Sharma led the Run for Unity and emphasised the need for social inclusion, dignity, security, and opportunity to lead a better life for Persons with Disabilities.
In a resounding display of solidarity, citizens including Divyangs from all walks of life participated in the Rally for National Unity.
Other Institutes of the Department also organized various programmes such as Run for Unity, a taking ceremony, various competitions such as Rangoli, essays writing, debates etc. to celebrate National Unity Day today.
All these activities were calls to action, recognizing that our strength as a nation lies in our ability to embrace our differences and work together towards a common goal.
