Mehbooba Mufti vows to ‘resist’; Calls August 5 as black day

According to the former chief minister, when unchecked oppression and brutal injustice is unleashed, there is no alternative but to resist in order to survive.

NEW DELHI — The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party’s President and former chief minister of the erstwhile state, Mehbooba Mufti, vowed to ‘resist’ the ‘unbridled oppression unleashed’ after the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

The PDP chief took to micro-blogging site Twitter and stated that no words or pictures are enough to depict the pain, torment & upheaval inflicted upon the people of J-K on this black day (August 5) two years ago.

“When unbridled oppression is unleashed & gross injustice heaped, there is no other choice but to resist to exist,” Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.

PDP describes August 5 as ‘the anniversary of our humiliation’

Soon after Mehbooba’s tweet, her party PDP described the 5th of August as ‘the anniversary of our humiliation.’

It said that the day would be remembered as the one on which the Union’s solemn commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir were broken, and constitutional democracy was undermined.

Protest demonstration led by Mehbooba Mufti in Srinagar

The PDP President Mehbooba Mufti also lead a protest demonstration on Thursday in the Kashmir capital, Srinagar.

While facing the media, the protesting PDP members raised slogans like ‘Maslai Kashmir Hal Karo’ (resolve the Kashmir dispute), ‘Khoon Kharaba Band Karo’ (end the bloodshed), ‘Qaidiyon Ko Reha Karo’ (release the political prisoners), and ‘Kale Din Ka Kala Faisla Wapas Lo Lo’ (take back black day’s black decision – referring to the abrogation of Article 370).

The party held a similar protest at Jammu, wherein the protestors were mostly clad in black clothes.

As per a tweet by the party’s Media Coordinator, Choudhary Parvez Waffa, the protestors demanded restoring the erstwhile state’s special status.

In the protest, both male and female workers of PDP participated and registered their protest as many of them held placards inked with slogans seeking the return of Article 370 and 35-A.
