Parcel Vans being attached to Special Trains To Facilitate Additional Parcel Loading

South Central Railway is continuously taking several initiatives to enhance parcel loading and also to cater to the different segments of customers.

As part of it, to facilitate additional parcel loading, Parcel Vans are being attached to several Special trains which are introduced in the recent times. This step has helped immensely the customers who offer parcel loading at the intermediate stations of the special trains in small quantities.

Further, Indian Railways has introduced recently the facility of Advance Booking of Parcel space in Luggage Rooms in Luggage Rooms & Parcel Vans, the details of which are-

For the convenience of parcel customers and as part of the customer friendly initiatives, Indian Railways has introduced advance booking facility of Parcel space in Luggage Rooms (SLRs) available o­n Passenger carrying trains and Parcel Vans (VPs) attached to the regular trains (non-indented) and also in time tabled parcel trains.The advance booking of space in SLRs and VPs is permitted upto 120 days in advance, subject to payment of 10% of the total freight by the customer at the time of booking. The Balance payment (90%) of the freight has to be paid at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train for which the advance booking has been made. If the customer fails to pay the balance amount as stipulated above i.e., at least 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the advance booking will be cancelled and advance freight will be forfeited.

The parcel customers who wish to offer consignments for loading are requested to contact the Chief Parcel supervisors of the concerned station for any further details.

Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR stated that the transportation of essential commodities has picked pace during post lockdown and the parcel vans attached to the special trains will benefit the traders, cargo aggregators and farmers, especially those who are handling small quantities for transporting their consignments in a safe, secure, economical and fastest mode as per the planned schedule. He also appealed to rail customers to optimally utilize the advance booking system to plan their transportation needs and logistics as per their convenience.
