India’s Biggest Voluntary Covid Gratitude Art takes shape in Mumbai: Dedicated to Covid Warriors across India
Initiative of Project Mumbai in partnership with Railways
Salaam Rakshak – Salute to the Protectors – Suburban railway stations of Mumbai suburban network are being beautified as a tribute and respect to the corona warriors. This is an initiative of NGO Project Mumbai, being done in partnership with Central & Western Railways. In total, there are 41 stations part of this initiative, the biggest in India namely, 19 stations on Central Railway from CSMT to Thane and 22 stations on Western Railway from Churchgate to Dahisar. In the first phase, four stations on the Central Railway viz. Mulund, Ghatkopar, Kurla and Matunga have been painted.
Shri Sanjeev Mittal, General Manager, Central Railway appreciated the initiative which has several unique elements like Citizens, including artists, students, and children have contributed to this work by taking time out during this Covid pandemic. He particularly cherished the paintings by children from municipal and private schools dedicated to corona warriors at Dadar station. The stations will display Kalamkaari art, Warli art, Madhubani and Gond art.
Shri Shalab Goel, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division said Matunga station is painted with tributes to women as it is the first all-women staff railway station in India.
Mumbai has always displayed a deep sense of give back. Salaam Rakshak is one unique way to express our gratitude to the warriors, across India, who have been relentless in this fight during the pandemic. For Project Mumbai which believes in the spirit of volunteering it cannot be a better opportunity, as railways are also which bind Mumbai together, said Shishir Joshi, CEO and Founder of Project Mumbai.
