Amit Shah attempting to resolve Assam-Mizoram border dispute: Mizoram Governor

According to media reports, the Mizoram Governor will meet the Home Minister this evening.

NEW DELHI — Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati said on Monday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is attempting to calm the tension at the Assam-Mizoram border and resolve the conflict.

The Governor visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier in the day to discuss the present border situation and ways to defuse tensions between the two states.

“It’s a terrible occurrence. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, is attempting to diffuse the tension and find a solution. Both Assam and Mizoram’s chief ministers have stated that peace will be restored,” the Governor told media.

According to media reports, the Mizoram Governor will meet the Home Minister this evening.

As part of the Centre’s effort to de-escalate the border dispute, Union Home Secretary, Ajay Kumar Bhalla met with Assam Chief Secretary, Jishnu Baruah and Mizoram Chief Secretary, Lalnunmawia Chuaungo on Wednesday.

On Monday, the border conflict between the two states reached a climax, with five Assam policemen and one civilian killed in a violent fire fight between the two states’ forces. The event resulted in the injuries of at least 50 persons.

One of the injured cops eventually died from his injuries, bringing the total number of slain cops to six.
