GM EASTERN RAILWAY ADVISED TO CONTINUE SAFETY DRIVES

Shri Suneet Sharma, General Manager, Eastern Railway in a virtual meeting with the Principal Officers and DRMs & CWMs today

Advised all concerned to give further stress o­n safety aspects keeping in view forthcoming foggy weather in winter season as well as the increase in the number of trains in different sections over the ER. The GM instructed concerned officers for conducting regular safety drives and surprise safety inspections. There should be zero tolerance o­n safety aspect and all should act in that direction, he added.

Shri Sharma, GM/ER appreciating the endeavor of ER’s officers & staff towards the resumption of suburban and non-suburban passenger train services for the convenience of commuters, advised all concerned to keep an eye o­n passengers comfort with more inputs for passenger amenities like escalators, lifts, etc. 

It may be noted that despite restriction due to COVID-19, Eastern Railway has already completed the installation of five lifts in its jurisdiction of which 2 are at Sahibganj, 1 at Kahalgaon, and 2 at Sealdah. Besides, the installation of 7 escalators has also been completed of which 5 are in Malda Division and 2 in Sealdah Division.

Eastern Railway has continued unabated freight services since the beginning of COVID-19 lockdown which is continuing during the unlocking with precautions period also. In the month of November this year, Eastern Railway has recorded a loading of 5.78 million tonnes in comparison to 5.55 million tonnes during the previous year. General Manager advised to keep up endeavor for increasing freight volume and giving more stress o­n capturing more share in freight traffic through Business Development Units of ER.
