High Commission of India Assists in Safe Repatriation of Indian Nationals from Bangladesh
Coordinated Efforts Ensure Safe Return of Citizens Amidst Recent Developments.
The High Commission of India in Dhaka, along with the Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna, has been actively involved in facilitating the return of Indian nationals to their homeland following recent developments in Bangladesh. In close collaboration with local authorities, comprehensive measures are being implemented to ensure the safe travel of Indian citizens to border crossing points along the India-Bangladesh International Border. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is also coordinating with civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and Border Security Force (BSF) authorities to ensure a smooth passage for returning citizens.
Successful Repatriation Efforts
To date, 778 Indian students have successfully returned to India through various land ports. Additionally, approximately 200 students have returned home via regular flight services from Dhaka and Chittagong airports. The High Commission of India in Dhaka and the Assistant High Commissions remain in regular contact with over 4,000 students still in various universities across Bangladesh, providing essential assistance as needed. Students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been aided in their crossing into India upon request.
Ensuring Safety and Security
The High Commission and the Assistant High Commissions are maintaining constant communication with Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals and students. Security escorts have been arranged where necessary for travel by road during repatriation through select land ports. Furthermore, the High Commission in Dhaka is coordinating with the civil aviation authorities of Bangladesh and commercial airlines to ensure uninterrupted flight services to India from Dhaka and Chittagong, facilitating the return of Indian nationals.
