Historic Exhibition on “Development of Education in North Eastern India” Inaugurated in Kohima

Organised by the National Archives of India and the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland

The National Archives of India, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, proudly inaugurated a unique archival exhibition titled “Development of Education in North Eastern India” at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima. This landmark exhibition highlights the historical evolution and strides made in the field of education in the North East, particularly Nagaland, through rare and insightful archival documents.

The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Shri Temjen Imna Along, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Nagaland. During the ceremony, the Hon’ble Minister also launched the Digital Exhibition and unveiled the Exhibition Brochure, marking a significant milestone in preserving and promoting the educational heritage of the region.

Other dignitaries present at the inaugural ceremony included Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso, MLA, Shri Samar Nanda, Director General, National Archives of India, Smt. Sarita Yadav, IAS, Secretary, Higher & Technical Education. Smt. V. Lovitoly Sema, NCS, Ex-Officio Director, Higher Education, Shri Syed Farid Ahmad, Deputy Director, National Archives of India, Dr. Devendra Kumar Sharma, Smt. Athel O. Lotha, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Art & Culture, along with senior officials, scholars, educators, and students.

The exhibition offers a comprehensive and thought-provoking look into the region’s educational development, featuring documents, photographs, correspondence, and policy papers that narrate the growth of educational institutions and reforms in the North-Eastern region.

This collaborative initiative not only celebrates the rich educational history of Nagaland and the North East but also serves to inspire future generations by highlighting the efforts and vision that shaped modern education in the region.

The exhibition is open to the public from August 8 to August 14, 2025, and all are cordially invited to visit and experience this compelling journey through the annals of education in North East India.
