Rahul Gandhi hails farmer protestors as “Satyagrahis, fearless, united”
Rahul Gandhi also slammed the Centre for being ‘a weak government’ as ‘writing the truth in ink on paper’ was ‘enough to intimidate’ it
Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday showered praise on the farmers, protesting against new farm bills, for being fearless and united.
Rahul Gandhi also called them as ‘Satyagrahis’, meaning those who hold onto truth with non-violent means.
Attacking the Centre, which is led by the BJP, he said, “They are adamant on falsehood, injustice, arrogance.”
“We are Satyagrahis, fearless, united standing here. Hail farmer! #FarmersParliament,” the Wayanad parliamentarian said.
Interestingly, farmers protesting against the farm laws held a “Farmers’ Parliament” at Jantar Mantar on Thursday, barely two kilometers away from Parliament in Sansad Marg where the monsoon session is going on.
The Congress leader also slammed the Centre for being ‘a weak government’ as ‘writing the truth in ink on paper’ was ‘enough to intimidate’ it.
“Writing the truth in ink on paper is enough to intimidate a weak government. #RaidOnFreePress,” he tweeted.
On Thursday, IT department raided multiple offices of the Dainik Bhaskar media group which is one of the world’s most popular newspapers. This move was condemned by journalists and major opposition politicians as an attack on press freedom.
Pertinently, the newspaper startled the country by reporting about dead corpses in the Ganges during the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also lambasted authorities for underreporting COVID-19 deaths and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for how they handled the problem.
