Assam-Mizoram Clashes: Himanta Biswa announces Rs 50 lakh, govt job for kin of slain cops

Himanta Biswa said, “We will also deploy 4,000 commandos & move SC to protect reserved forests along the border.”

NEW DELHI Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced to provide a Rs. 50 lakh to each of the policemen killed during clashes along the Mizoram border.

“We will pay ₹50 lakh to kin of policemen killed, give govt job to one family member, pay ₹1 lakh to the injured & additional one-month salary to policemen deployed along Mizoram border,” Himanta Biswa said, adding, “We will also deploy 4,000 commandos & move SC to protect reserved forests along the border.”

The chief minister was addressing a presser at Silchar.

The CM paid his tributes to the five Assam policemen who lost their lives during the clashes. He also visited SMCH to enquire about the health status of other injured personnel apart from reviewing the law and order situation in Silchar.

During his visit, the chief minister announced that Assam Government will give Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the families of martyrs, and one person from the family will get job. All injured will get Rs 1 lakh.

“All Assam Police personnel deployed on the Mizoram border shall get an additional salary of a month. Assam Government will raise three commando battalion for Karimganj, Cachar and Hailakandi while 3000 personnel will be recruited,” Mr Himanta said.

Also, he said that the government ‘shall’ file a suit in the Supreme Court, seeking intervention to ensure that not an inch of reserve forest area is encroached upon.

Earlier, the chief minister had expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives.
